Presentata al Salone di Parigi del 1937 con il nome “Ardennes”, la Lancia Aprilia venne progettata
dall'ing. Falchetto già noto per la creazione della Lambda e stretto collaboratore di Vincenzo Lancia. Data la prematura scomparsa del fondatore della casa di Torino la prima Aprilia uscì di fabbrica senza che il sig. Lancia l’avesse mai vista e senza assistere al suo successo. Due aneddoti accompagnano l’Aprilia, il primo quando Vincenzo Lancia provò il prototipo definendolo “una macchina meravigliosa” e il secondo è legato a Henry Ford sorpreso ad esaminare la vettura oltre l’orario di chiusura del Salone di Parigi: si giustificò dicendo che quella era l’unica auto per la quale valesse la pena farsi redarguire.
L’Aprilia era un’automobile del tutto innovativa per la sua epoca, infatti, alcune delle soluzioni adottate anticiparono quelli che saranno gli standard produttivi degli anni ‘50 e ‘60. È la prima vettura chiusa con scocca autoportante, camere di scoppio emisferiche e 4 ruote indipendenti. Inoltre, la calandra e il parabrezza lievemente inclinati e la forma della coda le permettono di ottenere un coefficiente aerodinamico molto basso per l’epoca.
Non solo innovazioni tecniche ma anche nello stile: sono assenti i montanti centrali e le cerniere delle porte “ad armadio” sono nascoste facendone la prima Lancia con cerniere non a vista.
La prima serie, nata con il classico schema dei 4 cilindri a V stretto con cilindrata ridotta a 1.350 cc, venne sostituita dalla seconda con motore da 1.500 cc con un miglioramento delle doti di coppia. Questo renderà la vettura ancora più guidabile ed elastica, ragione per la quale l'Aprilia avrà anche una carriera sportiva ricca di successi.
Il nostro modello ha avuto solo tre proprietari: il primo fino al 2013 e l’attuale a partire dal 2015 e ha subìto di recente dei lavori di manutenzione. Si presenta rifinita nel classico blu Lancia con interni in panno grigio, un abbinamento di sicuro interesse. Inoltre, conserva un ottimo stato di autenticità: la targa e i documenti, gelosamente custoditi nel portadocumenti dell’epoca, sono originali.
Il fascino senza tempo della Lancia Aprilia e le soluzioni tecniche adottate, rendono il modello una pietra miliare della casa Torinese alla quale ogni cultore appassionato di automobili presta attenzione.

Introduced at the Paris Motor Show in 1937 under the name 'Ardennes', the Lancia Aprilia was designed by engineer Falchetto, already known for the development of the Lambda and a close collaborator of Vincenzo Lancia. Due to the premature death of the founder of the company, the first Aprilia exited the factory without Mr Lancia ever having seen it and without assisting to its success. Two anecdotes are linked to the Aprilia, when Vincenzo Lancia tested the prototype, describing it as 'a wonderful car' and the second, related to Henry Ford being surprised to examine the car at the Paris Motor Show: he justified himself by saying that this was the only car worth being rebuked for.
The Aprilia was a completely innovative car for its time, some of the features foreshadowed what would become the production standards of the 1950s and 1960s. It was the first closed car with a self-supporting chassis, hemispherical combustion chambers and four independent wheels. In addition, the slightly inclined front grille and windscreen and the shape of the tail gave it a very low aerodynamic coefficient for that period. Not only technical innovations but also in styling: the pillar-less construction, and the 'Mirror-image' door hinges are hidden, making it the first Lancia with non-visible hinges.
The first series, born with the classic 4-cylinder narrow V layout with capacity reduced to 1,350 cc, was replaced by the second with a 1,500-cc engine and improved torque outputs. This made the car even more drivable and agile, which is why the Aprilia also had a successful racing career.
Our model has only had three owners: the first until 2013 and the current one from 2015 and has recently undergone some maintenance work. It is finished in classic Lancia blue with a grey fabric interior, an interesting combination. In addition, it retains an excellent state of authenticity: the number plate and the documents, jealously guarded in the period document holder, are original.
The timeless appeal of the Lancia Aprilia and the technical solutions adopted make the model a milestone to which every car enthusiast pays attention.
